What Black History Means to Me

Shared by Â鶹´«Ã½ Southeast's Cori Brown, in honor of US Black History Month

Black History Month [celebrated every February in the US] is a time of reflection, celebration, and responsibility.

As a Black professional woman in the events industry, I honor this month by recognizing the resilience, brilliance, and contributions of those who paved the way before me.

Their sacrifices and achievements are a constant reminder that I stand on the shoulders of giants — leaders, trailblazers, and visionaries who dared to dream beyond the limitations placed upon them. Their stories fuel my passion and reinforce my commitment to creating opportunities for others.

In an industry where representation matters, I strive to uplift and mentor the next generation, ensuring that young Black professionals see themselves reflected in spaces where decisions are made and where excellence is expected.

The challenges we face today — whether social, political, or economic — make this work even more critical.

It is not enough to succeed individually; we must collectively foster environments where our voices are valued, our talents are recognized, and our contributions are celebrated.

Despite the chaos happening in America and the divisive political landscape, US Black History Month is a powerful reminder that we have always persevered. We have always found ways to innovate, to lead, and to inspire.

This month is a call to action — to continue breaking barriers, supporting one another, and pushing for progress, not just for ourselves, but for those who will come after us.

Our history is rich, our future is bright, and our impact is undeniable.
